Tony O’Shea scanning his films at Gallery of Photography Ireland
“Tony O’Shea is interested in the moment where the ritual and the casual face each other in the complex light that comes from Irish skies. He likes gatherings and public spaces. And he is watching for the second when, even if his subjects are performing, a guard has been let down, and the camera becomes an uneasy, tentative, hesitant window into the soul. He seeks images of individual loneliness and isolation, figures in a state of reverie and contemplation, or figures in a state of excitement.” – Colm Toíbín

Words not spent today buy smaller images tomorrow: David Levi Strauss
At this transitional moment in the field of photography, how should we consider what is to come for the medium? Can its past and present practitioners help guide us, both as creators and as observers? David Levi Strauss—eminent author, critic, and teacher—rises to the challenge of these questions and more in Words Not Spent Today Buy Smaller Images Tomorrow: Essays on the Past and Future of Photography.
Words Not Spent Today is an incisive exploration of photography’s changing role as a tool of evidence and conscience as we move forward into—can we say it?—a post-photographic era.
